About this opportunity
Turn a passion for vehicles, adventure and business into your next move.
Opposite Lock Townsville places its next owner at the centre of North Queensland’s thriving 4WD, touring and automotive community. From weekend explorers and serious off-road enthusiasts to tradespeople who depend on their vehicles every day, this business helps customers get more from the vehicles they own.
The opportunity brings together the credibility of a nationally recognised brand, an established local operation and the freedom to drive future growth.
The business supplies and installs a broad range of 4WD and touring products, including vehicle protection equipment, suspension, recovery gear, winches, roof racks, storage solutions, towing products, lighting, electrical accessories and battery systems.
Its workshop capability adds another important dimension. Services include general vehicle servicing, suspension and GVM upgrades, auto-electrical and air-conditioning work, tyres and wheels, mechanical repairs and performance tuning.
For the right purchaser, this is an opportunity to walk into an established operation and make it their own.
Business Story
North Queensland and four-wheel driving go hand in hand.
From remote touring and weekends away to towing, work vehicles and serious off-road adventures, the region creates ongoing demand for capable vehicles equipped for the way their owners want to use them.
Opposite Lock Townsville gives an incoming purchaser the chance to own a business connected to that lifestyle.
Customers come to the business with an idea of where they want their vehicle to take them. The team helps turn that idea into reality by recommending the right products, supplying the equipment and professionally completing the installation.
A customer may arrive for a single accessory and return for suspension, lighting, storage, towing equipment, electrical upgrades or a complete touring setup. This creates opportunities to build lasting customer relationships and increase the value of each vehicle project over time.
The business extends well beyond accessory retailing. Its automotive workshop provides general servicing, suspension and GVM upgrades, mechanical repairs, performance tuning, air-conditioning, auto-electrical work, tyres and wheel services.
Bringing these capabilities together creates a diversified operation with income generated across product sales, installation labour and workshop services. It also gives customers the convenience and confidence of dealing with one established business for multiple vehicle requirements.
The Civil Road premises provide the setting needed to deliver that experience. The location combines a customer-facing showroom and waiting area with an equipped workshop, allowing enquiries, product selection, installation and vehicle servicing to be managed through one operation.
An experienced team of six employees is already in place. For an incoming owner, this provides an established operational foundation and the opportunity to concentrate on leadership, customer relationships, business development and growth.
The Opposite Lock name brings national brand recognition, established product ranges, supplier relationships, operating systems and franchise support. A current five-year franchise agreement commenced in December 2025, providing continuity within the established Townsville territory.
The next owner will also have several exciting directions to explore.
There is potential to pursue more fleet, trade and local government work, strengthen relationships with motor dealers and panel beaters, expand battery and electrical system sales, increase marketing throughout North and Western Queensland and add workshop capacity as demand grows.
A hands-on owner could bring energy, relationships and commercial direction to the business. An established automotive operator could use it as a platform for expansion. A 4WD enthusiast with the right management and technical support could turn a genuine interest into an engaging commercial venture.
Opposite Lock Townsville offers the chance to take control of an established business, represent a recognised name and build a future in an industry driven by vehicles, adventure and the North Queensland lifestyle.
The foundations are in place. The next chapter is ready for a new owner.

Phil started his working career in purchasing with large and multi-national companies in Sydney.
A family relocation to Bowen in 1974 was the catalyst to owning his own business.
Phil has been in various businesses from Pest Control to Delicatessen/Takeaway and has for the last 39 years built a wholesale business that has served Bowen, Whitsundays, Mackay and the Coalfields, from 1 truck and himself to 6 trucks and 15 employees.
This has given Phil a very solid knowledge of the area from Bowen to Rockhampton and what it takes to thrive in business there.
Phil has a strong knowledge of business and business practices built through the process of growing his own business as well as time spent on State Franchise Council and dealing with the many changing government policies in those 39 years.
The process of selling his own business has shown Phil the real need for a locally based business broker, easily contacted and heavily focused on the Central Queensland area, which has led to his involvement in CQ Business Brokers.
