About this opportunity
Nestled in the heart of Queensland's Bowen Basin – the economic powerhouse that drives Australia's mining industry – Collinsville Hardware represents more than just a business opportunity. It's your chance to own a cornerstone enterprise in one of Australia's most strategically important regional centres, where coal mining operations generate billions in economic activity and a thriving community of workers, families, and businesses depend on reliable, quality hardware supplies.
This isn't just another hardware store. This is a 65-year legacy business, refined and strengthened over more than four decades by dedicated family owners who have built something truly special in regional Queensland. Now, as they prepare for well-deserved retirement, they're seeking the right buyer to carry forward this remarkable enterprise into its next chapter of growth and prosperity.
Opportunities like Collinsville Hardware don't appear often in Australia's regional business market. The combination of established profitability, market dominance, growth potential, and strategic location represents a rare chance to acquire a business that offers both immediate returns and long-term wealth creation potential.
Business Story
Perhaps the most compelling aspect of this opportunity lies in a fact that would be impossible to achieve in metropolitan markets: Collinsville Hardware operates without a single hardware competitor within a 90-kilometre radius. This isn't just market leadership – this is market monopoly in the best possible sense, where your success isn't dependent on stealing customers from competitors, but on serving the genuine, ongoing needs of an established and growing customer base.
Location matters in retail, and Collinsville Hardware occupies premium main street frontage that provides maximum visibility and accessibility for their customers. The easy access means customers can quickly pop in for urgent supplies, browse your expanded ranges at leisure, and load heavy materials without the logistical challenges that plague many hardware operations. For farmers managing seasonal demands, and for residents tackling weekend projects, convenient access isn't just appreciated – it's essential. This main street presence also provides excellent opportunities for expanding your customer base through impulse purchases, seasonal promotions, and the kind of community engagement that drives long-term business growth.
The post-pandemic focus on regional development and decentralisation is bringing new residents and businesses to communities like Collinsville. You're not just buying a business – you're positioning yourself at the centre of these positive regional trends. While urban hardware businesses face increasing competition from online retailers and large format stores, regional operations like Collinsville Hardware benefit from the fundamental advantages of local presence, immediate availability, and personalised service that cannot be replicated by distant competitors.
While Collinsville Hardware already represents a solid, profitable business, the real excitement lies in the numerous growth opportunities that the current owners have identified but haven't had time to fully develop. These represent multiple pathways to significantly increase revenue and profitability without the risks associated with unproven business concepts. Introducing nursery products, trailer hire services, camping and outdoor equipment, and plant hire services could significantly boost revenue.
After the business becomes yours, the current owners will gladly give you a generous period of tuition to ensure you are accustomed to running the business when the time comes. The tuition will run you through everything you need to know behind the scenes and allow the business run optimally for your takeover.
Collinsville Hardware represents one the best of regional Queensland business opportunities: established, profitable, community-focused, and perfectly positioned for growth. The question isn't whether this represents an excellent investment opportunity – the question is whether you're ready to take advantage of it.

The process of selling his own business has shown Phil the real need for a locally based business broker, easily contacted and heavily focused on the Central Queensland area, which has led to his involvement in CQ Business Brokers.
